The skeleton of your nose will be adjusted by removing excess bone and cartilage. Nasal bones may be broken and then reset.
You may have dressings inside the nose, as well as an external splint which will hold the nasal bones in position.
You will be advised to take two weeks off work to convalesce. The splint will be removed after 7 to 10 days. There may be some bruising and swelling. Your after-care package will advise you on how to best look after your nose until it is fully healed.
The operation will take up to 2 hours and you will be under general anaesthetic. You’ll need to stay in the hospital for up to 2 days.What happens afterwards?
There will be some bruising for 2-3 weeks, but once this disappears you’ll have the nose you always wanted. You’ll need to avoid strenuous exercise for 4 weeks and turn up for your follow up appointments in 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months, six months and a year.Will there be scarring?
In closed rhinoplasty operations, the incisions are inside the nostrils, however open rhinoplasty, which involves the tip of the nose, will require an incision on the strip of skin between your nostrils.
