Whether you have naturally small breasts you’d like to augment, or you feel unhappy about breasts which have been affected by pregnancy or weight loss, we can help increase your breast size and restore body confidence. We offer safe procedures that use implants to increase size, or lipofilling techniques.
Lipofilling involves removing fat from another part of your body via liposuction and injecting it under the skin of the breast. This is a cosmetic breast enlargement procedure which is less predictable than a breast implant but has the ability to be lifelong in duration. It is best suited to patients who want to increase their breasts by one cup size. The fat harvested from a patient’s own body has been used as a breast implant for around 100 years.
During your consultation you will discuss the size and shape you want to achieve.
On the day of the operation, you’ll have general anaesthetic and your surgeon will make an incision under the breast, to make a pocket in which to place the implant.
The procedure itself lasts 1 ½ hours, during which time an incision is made under the breast, or around the edge of the nipple and a breast implant is inserted. Different shape implants are available, depending on whether you’d prefer a natural or augmented look.
Is it safe?Breast augmentation surgery is very safe. Don’t believe the papers. This type of surgery has an excellent safety record and you can continue to have routine mammograms around the implant. Just warm your doctor that you have implants beforehand.
What's the recovery time? You will be in hospital overnight and bruised and swollen for a few weeks. We recommend no heavy lifting for 3 weeks. You may have some pain caused by scar tissue, but this will subside. There may be scarring, but this will be discreet and the scars will fade over time.
Will I be able to breastfeed? This procedure does not interfere with your ability to breastfeed.
What are the possible complications? As with any surgery, there’s a risk associated with general anaesthetic and infection to the wound, along with a slight possibility of bleeding or haematoma. Occasionally nipple sensitivity is reduced or increased. Silicon leakage is another slight risk, but it will only be a small amount and the substance isn’t poisonous.
Any complications can be dealt with by your doctor. Please also bear in mind that although we try our best to make the breasts of equal size, we cannot guarantee exact symmetry.
What are the side affects of lipofilling? The liposuction leaves tiny scars which can become lumpy. There will be some swelling, bruising and redness, once the procedure is complete.
Is Lipofilling safe?Fat transfer has a very good safety record, however, there has been some research into the fact that lipofilling can mimic cancer. This may provide false results on a mammogram. That said, experienced radiologists are able to differentiate lipofilling from cancer.
